Hedge Cutting & Trimming: your questions answered

When is the best time to cut hedges in London?

Most hedges are cut once in late spring and again in late summer. We avoid disturbing active birds nests between March and August, so we check a hedge before we start and come back later if a nest is in use.

How much does hedge cutting cost?

Hedge cutting is £60 per hour for the two-man team, plus £10 for each large bulk bag of cuttings we take away. A typical front-garden hedge is well under an hour.

Can you reduce a hedge that has got too tall?

Yes. Most hedges can be brought down in height in stages. Laurel, privet and yew respond well to hard cutting; leylandii should not be cut back into bare wood, so we reduce it to the green growth.

Do you cut hedges next to a road or pavement?

Yes. We cut long roadside hedges for homes and blocks of flats, keep the pavement passable while we work and sweep up before we go.

Will you take the hedge cuttings away?

Always. Cuttings are bagged and removed at £10 per large bulk bag, so nothing is left on your drive or pavement.
